Yesterday two charter buses full of exchange students got, as Migos would say, bad and bougie about an hour away from Pamplona--we went wine tasting!
First we stopped in Logroño for about two hours just to walk around and see the city. Although I've had my fair share of foreigner experiences since being here, this was the first time I really felt like a tourist because Logroño had those narrow streets between colorful buildings with balconies that are characteristic of most touristy Europe pictures. We also saw the Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda:

After we left Logroño, we went to Ysios Winery in Laguardia for a tour of the winery and a wine tasting. The tour guide told us about the process from harvest to store shelf--even though I'm not really sure what store this wine would be sold in because one bottle costs about 190 euro (and that's not the limited edition). I learned that each winery has a different process for bottling, but at Ysios, they hand pick the grapes, and keep them separated by plot from then until they reach the bottle because apparently different plots make different wine. I also learned that I am not a red wine person. Ysios only harvests one type of grape, but we tasted two different wines--one was limited edition, which means it stays in the barrels for about 12-15 months longer than normal before being fermented. Both tasted a bit too bitter for my liking, but I did like the limited edition more because it was sweeter. Also, the limited edition was 30% alcohol, so I went right to sleep on the bus ride back. Here's some footage of the outside of the winery (and also the mountains that I mentioned in my last post):
And here's a gallery of other pictures from both Logroño and Ysios!
One thing I learned: "Cash" in Spanish is "efectivo." That's one word that I never really had to use and then when someone asked how would I would pay for something last week, I couldn't think of the word. Now I see it all the time on my receipts because I rarely pay with a card ("tarjeta," a word I use frequently because it's multipurpose--credit card, bus card, ID card, SIM card... the list goes on!).
In other news, I booked a weekend trip to Valencia earlier today, so I'm looking forward to going there in a few weeks!
¡Hasta luego!
