Barcelona: Day 5

Today I toured Barcelona's 1992 Olympic grounds and visited La Sagrada Familia!

On the way to the stadium, I walked through Parc de Montjuic, which was pretty hilly. When I reached the top, I could see almost all of the city.

I also passed through Joan Maragall Gardens, where I saw this ancient-style statue and stairway.

At the top of these stairs, the first thing you can see is the Olympic Museum and the stadium for track and field. First, I'll let you look at a short video of everything, and then I'll describe some of the sites more in depth with picture captions.

I visited the Sagrada Familia next, which was an hour walk away. I tried taking the metro but the ticket machine was giving me issues and there weren't actual humans to help people, so luckily I had enough time to walk the whole way!

The Basilica was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and even though the pictures are pretty, they don't do the church any justice. Construction started in 1882 with Antoni Gaudí as the head architect. Today it still isn't finished, but the current head of construction's goal is to finish the church by 2026, the 100-year anniversary of Gaudi's death.

This is the facade to the entrance of the church. The three doors represent Joseph (left), Jesus (center) and Mary (right). The part where the camera zooms in represents the tree of life.

Inside the church the stain-glass windows are warmer hues on one side, and cooler on the other to compliment the direction the sun rises and sets.

For dinner, I ate at Tobogán Restaurant in Plaza Real! I ordered the seafood fideua and sangria.

Tomorrow is my final day in the city! Stay tuned!
